Background

In my adult life, I have been through an ever-changing kaleidoscope of careers including federal work at Wright-Patterson AFB (National Air Intelligence Center), elementary school teaching (BS, Early Childhood Education), textbook editing, massage therapy and freelance writing.

I have always preferred work in which I get to directly help society, and massage therapy enables me to do just that. I love being a part of people’s general health and wellness, as well as fostering peace and rejuvenation. Two of the most rewarding moments in a massage session are (1) hearing that huge sigh of “letting go,” about ten minutes into a treatment and (2) seeing someone emerge from the massage room all smiling and vibrant.

Experience

I am a 2003 graduate of the Dayton School of Medical Massage, and licensed by the Ohio State Medical Board to practice massage therapy. I have also received a national certification in therapeutic massage and bodywork.

In the winter of 2004, I became certified in Level I Cranio-Sacral therapy by the Upledger Institute. While not doing entire treatments of this therapy, I incorporate some of its techniques in my general massage.

I have independently studied Reflexology, and learned Reiki with a private instructor (receiving my first and second Attunements). These two modalities also find their way into my general massage, when necessary.

From the summer of 2005 until September of 2007, I lived in Santa Barbara, California and worked as a massage therapist for the world-class Bacara Resort and Spa. I learned a great deal in my experience there, including a form of sports massage encompassing shiatsu and Thai techniques, Aromatherapy, and synchronized four-handed massage. Getting to work on many different people and body types in such a rigorous schedule made me a stronger and more proficient therapist.

In September of 2007, I returned to Ohio and re-opened a private practice in my home town of Beavercreek (a suburb of Dayton).

Coastal California was a healing and wonderful place, with the beauty of both mountains and ocean together in one spot. I have tried to create its warmth and feel in my office for all to enjoy. The color schemes are patterned after the sand and blue sky. Photos of California landscapes grace the walls. There are even ocean waves playing in the background. The only thing missing is the sun.

In February of 2008 I became certified in Level 1 Neuromuscular Therapy.
